History of Chib Katoch Rajputs

The Chib Rajputs are one of the most prominent Rajput clans of the Jammu & Kashmir region, with their roots tracing back to the Katoch royal family of Kangra (Himachal Pradesh), one of the oldest surviving royal lineages in India. The Chibs are historically associated with valor, loyalty, and leadership, and their ancestral seat lies in Bhimber, often known as the “Gateway to Kashmir. The Chibs are believed to descend from Raja Megh Chandra, who was kiing of the Katoch dynasty.

We are proud heirs of Bhimber, guardians of faith, and keepers of legacy

Bhimber, located on the historic route between the plains of Punjab and the Kashmir Valley, was the ancestral stronghold of the Chib Rajputs. Its strategic position made it a center of trade, culture, and military significance. For centuries, Bhimber was ruled and administered by Royal Family of Chib Rajput leadership. During the medieval period, a branch of the Chib Rajputs embraced Islam, yet they retained their Rajput identity, traditions, and values. This gave rise to a proud lineage of Muslim Rajputs, who continued to embody the Rajput spirit of valor and honor while integrating Islamic culture and values.

``Thus endures the honor of the Chib Rajputs``
